I listened to a lot of music for this post and it was so hard to narrow down the scope. But here we go!
5). Sexy Getting Ready Song
Episode 1: “Josh Just Happens to Live Here!”
Other than the title number of West Covina, this was the song that set the bar high for self-meta musical commentary for the rest of the season. It also smashes the patriarchy which earns it bonus points.
4). Heavy Boobs
Episode 16: “Josh’s Sister Is Getting Married!”
I feel this song so hard, yo.
3). I Gave You a UTI
Episode 17: “Why Is Josh in a Bad Mood?”
This show smashes the patriarchy so often you need to gather the squad to have enough fingers and tows to count the instances. And then you get this song which sounds so innocent even though it’s about a dude singing about his sexual prowess.
2). His Status is Preferred
Episode 7: “I’m So Happy that Josh Is So Happy!”
I have a soft spot for jazz numbers. Context is not needed to appreciate this song, which gives it an added bonus.
Episode 11: “That Text Was Not Meant for Josh!”
A callback to the 80s? Check! Meta-commentary on the show? Check! Lady drummer? Check! The only bad thing is this song was not named Textastrophe.
If you’ve seen Crazy Ex Girlfriend (and really why haven’t you), which song is your favorite? Let me know in the comments!
